Our Doctors
![]() Dr. Thomas Kleven - University of Illinois, 1978. Dr. Kleven began working at Palos Animal Hospital immediately after graduating from U of I in June of 1978. He became a practice partner with Dr. Harold Reece in 1994, and purchased the hospital from him in 1998. Dr. Kleven has enjoyed the challenges that practicing veterinary medicine brings, and cherishes the many client friends that he has made while caring for their pets. He has a special interest in weight management problems in dogs and cats. Dr. Kleven is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, Chicago Veterinary Medical Association, and serves as an advisor to the WAGS program at Palos Community Hospital. Dr. Kleven, his wife Karen, and sons Phil and Brett have a Golden Retriever named Coco. His son Phil is pursuing a Master's Degree in Violin Performance, and his other son, Brett, is a Kinesiology major. Dr. Kleven enjoys working outside, fishing, watching sports, and listening to classical music.
Dr. Joel Mills - University of Illinois, 1997. Dr. Mills joined the hospital staff in 1997. One of his hobbies is collecting records. His pets are a dog named Payton and a cat named Retro.
Dr. Susie Wall - Ohio State University, 1997. Dr. Wall began working at Palos Animal Hospital in 1997. She has a Golden Retriever called Milo and a white cat named Kitty Christmas. Some of her hobbies are reading, spending time with family and friends, hiking, camping,and geocaching.

Dr. Deirdre Shepard - Purdue University, 1993. Dr. Shepard first started working at the hospital in 1995. She has a Bichon/Miniature Pinscher/Beagle mix named Bernard. Some of her outside interests include spending time with her husband and twin daughters, traveling, and spending time outdoors.
![]() Dr. Sarah Turek - Purdue University, 2007. Dr. Turek has been a member of the hospital staff since August 2007. Her hometown is West Lafayette, Indiana, and she attended Purdue University for her undergraduate work and for veterinary school. She likes running in her free time, volunteering with the youth group at her church, and watching Indianapolis Colts football. Her dog is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Mr. Tumnus.
![]() Dr. Jeff Sankey - Ontario Veterinary College, 2008. Dr. Sankey has been working at Palos Animal Hospital since July 2008. Before veterinary school, he worked at the hospital for many years as an assistant. His pets are two birds, a fish, and a cat named Knuckles. He also enjoys playing drums and woodworking. |
